The James Bond film franchise is allowing Ralph Fiennes to spend more time on stage.
Fiennes takes over, fully, from Judi Dench as M in the latest 007 movie, Spectre, which is shooting now.
And the ‘healthy’ pay cheque the actor receives for his Bond endeavours gives him the freedom to venture more into the theatre.
He’s currently giving a bravura performance in Shaw’s marathon Man And Superman at the National Theatre.
He added he wouldn’t mind doing more comedy, either, following the fun he had playing highly perfumed concierge Gustave H in Wes Anderson’s Bafta and Oscar-laden success The Grand Budapest Hotel.
The actor told me a while back that playing Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter and Gareth Mallory gave him the financial underpinning that enabled him to accept comparatively lower paid theatre work.
