Were True Detective's writers brave enough to kill Colin Farrell off after just two episodes? No.
Farrell fans were relieved to discover on Sunday night that Detective Ray Velcoro survived the two shotgun blasts he took to the chest at the end of last week's episode.
Episode three was packed with even more painful scenes, from Vince Vaughn pulling a man's teeth out with pliers, to Rachel McAdam's brutal break-up.
In Maybe Tomorrow viewers also discovered the reason behind Taylor Kitch's character Paul Woodrugh problems in the bedroom and his apparent self loathing: he's gay, and he is far from comfortable with it.
The episode opened with a dream sequence of Velcoro at the bar where he normally meets Vince Vaughn's Frank Semyon, except this time he's talking to his dad, who wears a police uniform; he wakes to find himself on the floor of the deceased city manager's apartment where he was ambushed.
His immediate concern - after checking his gunshot wound to discover it was just buckshot - was that he had 'pi**ed himself'.
