Colin Farrell's fate, Vince Vaughn's violent dentistry, and Rachel McAdams' break up technique… Episode 3 of True Detective, by Jim Shelley!
Fans of True Detective had spent all week waiting - to find out the fate of Colin Farrell's character, the charismatic, corrupt, cop Ray Velcoro.
They were probably still reeling from the sensational finale to the previous episode, stunned by the sight of Velcoro being blasted at close range – twice - by a shotgun fired by a figure covered by a black, beaked, feathered mask - like a cross between the Grim Reaper and a sinister human crow. (What other kind is there?)
The thought of Velcoro and the Hollywood star playing him exiting after only two episodes seemed unthinkable.
(*Warning: for any 'TD' devotees yet to see episode three, this is revealed below.)
The denouement apart, in truth 'Maybe Tomorrow' was the weakest installment so far - as if writer Nic Pizzolatto had taken into consideration what we had been through last week.
Sensibly, he gave us – and his characters – a break, essentially treading water for a week.
