American scheme to train Syrian rebels in the fight against the Islamic State is considered a complete failure, after a US general acknowledged that only 4 or 5 of them were still at war. The US Congress approved a fund of 500 million dollars to train and equip about 5,000 rebels, as an essential part of American strategy against the Islamic State. The first 54 rebels were trained by the United States was pulled out of the game by an Al-Qaeda attack in Syria and it is not known what happened to them. According to Gen. Lloyd Austin, some of them were killed, several others were abducted and disappeared.
